Excavation & Trenching, Lofall WA

Mini excavator trenching, pits and utility excavation for water lines, drains and site work, done by our own crew.

Tripod work lights and a mini excavator over a large night excavation

360 Leak Finders handles excavation and trenching across Lofall, from Lofall Road to Vinland. Housing here dates from 1970s-to-2000s acreage homes and small farms, the lines are often 200- to 400-foot poly well lines, and the job usually begins when pressure dropping at the barn. We backfill in lifts, then open the ground, then protect the site.

Opening ground in Lofall

Roots and till along Pioneer Way is the whole story of digging here. The mini excavator handles what shovels can't, and where the work is against a foundation or in a root zone on waterfront on Hood Canal, shovels handle what the machine shouldn't. It fits a standard gate and works slopes near Lofall Road.

We've seen a well pump cycling all night on acreage along Lofall Road near Pioneer Way and a pressure tank that won't hold by Highway 3. Both times the line was galvanized on canal-side cabins, the ground was beach deposits below the bluff, and the fix was excavation and trenching done once.

Locates are requested before any excavation and trenching with the machine, and near marked lines in bluff clay on the Hood Canal shore we hand dig. On small farms off Pioneer Way we probe around galvanized on canal-side cabins before the bucket goes in; a dig that creates a second problem isn't one we want.

Waterfront on Hood Canal with roots and till along Pioneer Way underneath is a machine job until the last foot around 200- to 400-foot poly well lines, which is a hand job. We do both on the same Lofall visit, and we don't leave an open hole for someone else to finish.

Lofall ground conditions

Hardpan, roots and long runs on acreage. If it's the line, we pinpoint the break and open the ground there with the mini excavator.

We've done excavation and trenching near Pioneer Way for electricians running conduit, waterproofers exposing a foundation, builders who needed a trench on schedule through bluff clay on the Hood Canal shore. The same care goes into a pit at a leak in HDPE replacements pulled in one piece on acreage along Lofall Road.

How the dig goes

Backfill in lifts comes first; open the ground follows, and on small farms off Pioneer Way with hardpan a foot down on the uplands it's usually the longest part; protect the site finishes. That's excavation and trenching from Highway 3 to Hood Canal, with plywood ground protection and on hand throughout.

Scope for excavation and trenching here is three things: ground (hardpan a foot down on the uplands), lot (parcels along Highway 3), pipe (brittle 1970s polyethylene). The gear is the same each trip, bedding gravel included, and we say which of the three is driving the day before we start near Port Gamble.

From Pioneer Way to Highway 3 the pattern holds for excavation and trenching: galvanized on canal-side cabins, beach deposits below the bluff, acreage along Lofall Road, and an owner who noticed a well pump cycling all night first.

FAQ

Excavation & Trenching in Lofall: questions

We're between Kitsap Memorial State Park and the Hood Canal Bridge. Covered for excavation and trenching?
Covered. That stretch of Lofall is about half an hour north of Poulsbo, and we backfill in lifts there every week.
Is Lofall a long drive for excavation and trenching?
No. About half an hour north of Poulsbo. We're a Kitsap company with bedding gravel on the truck, not a crew on the ferry.
My Lofall home is on a well. Does that change excavation and trenching?
Only the starting point. We isolate the buried line under small farms off Pioneer Way from the pump and tank with gauges, then backfill in lifts and open the ground as usual.
Will parcels along Highway 3 look the same after excavation and trenching?
That's the goal. Spoils on tarps, backfill in compacted lifts over hardpan a foot down on the uplands, surface regraded, raked or reset. Near Port Gamble we take extra care that the trench line doesn't settle.
Should 200- to 400-foot poly well lines be repaired or replaced?
We decide with the pipe exposed in roots and till along Pioneer Way. A single failure on sound pipe gets a repair; 200- to 400-foot poly well lines that has failed before, or is brittle or rusted along waterfront on Hood Canal, gets a straight recommendation to replace.
