Olalla, WA

Well country at the south end of Kitsap where a leaking line shows up as a pump that won't shut off.

Coiled black water line beside a safety cone with Puget Sound visible through the trees

Olalla is the rural south end of Kitsap County, along Olalla Valley Road, Banner Road and the Colvos Passage shoreline, and almost everyone here is on a private well or a small community system. That changes what a leak looks like. There is no utility bill to warn you. The signs are a well pump that cycles all night, a pressure tank that won't hold, a drop in pressure at the far fixtures, or a soft green stripe across a pasture in August. A leak on a 300-foot polyethylene line between a well house and a farmhouse can run for a year on good-draining ground without anyone noticing anything but the power bill.

We locate on well systems from the pressure side, using acoustic equipment and a correlator to work along the line, and we can usually separate a buried-line leak from a pump, check valve or tank problem before anyone picks up a shovel. If it's the line, we pinpoint the break and open the ground there with the mini excavator. Olalla's hardpan is slow by hand and quick with a bucket.

A lot of the polyethylene well lines out here went in during the 1970s and 80s and are now brittle. Where a line has already failed once or twice, we'll show you the pipe and give you a straight comparison between another spot repair and a continuous HDPE replacement pulled in one piece. On the Colvos Passage waterfront the lots are older and tighter and the repairs are usually hand-dug.

Olalla is the far south edge of what a lot of Kitsap companies will drive to. We go. Call 360 Leak Finders at (206) 354-9906, any time.

Leak detection in Olalla

Olalla has almost no utility meters, so the locate starts at the well's pressure tank and the first job is proving the loss is in the buried line and not at the pump, check valve or tank. From there it's a correlator across a long pasture run and a ground microphone at the break. Outwash that drains hides the leak; peat in the Olalla Creek valley holds it.

Water line repair and replacement in Olalla

Brittle 1970s and 80s poly well lines are the rule, and the honest recommendation after a second failure is a continuous HDPE replacement. The mini excavator handles the hardpan and the long runs. Colvos Passage waterfront lots are older and tighter and hand-dug.

Exterior drains in Olalla

Pasture ponding, the wet Olalla Creek valley and bluff seeps along Colvos Passage. French drains and swales with gravity outlets, and footing drain replacements on the 1970s to 2000s homes, are the common work.

Excavation in Olalla

The south end of our range, with hardpan uplands and wet valley bottoms. We plan Olalla days to finish in one trip with the machine, pumps and pipe all on the trailer.
